Micromedex Mobile App General and Technical FAQs

 

1.  What iOS device versions are supported for the mobile apps?

  • Micromedex® mobile apps support iOS devices with Retina display and support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5.
  • iPhone 3GS and higher are supported; apps are no longer supported for iPhone 3G and lower devices.

2.  How much space is required on my device to install the application?
Drug Information needs 24MB and Drug Interactions needs 12MB.  

3.  How often is the data in Micromedex apps reviewed for accuracy and correctness?
The data is under a constant review process and is updated as needed.  

4.  I am having a problem downloading the application. What can I do?

Please contact iTunes support at http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/  

5.  I believe the data is incorrect. What can I do?
Please notify our support team by email with your concerns.  

6.  What happens if I lose or damage my device?
We will follow iTunes model, so you will be able to download it to your new device.  

7.  Is there a limit on the number of drugs in a drug interaction?
The interaction checker has been tested with up to 50 drugs.  

8.  Is there a different version for the iPad®?
There is one universal installer for all Apple® devices.  

9.  How do I renew my subscription?
You must renew your subscription through the iTunes® App Store.  

10.  How will my device receive updates?
You will be notified by the application when updates are available.  

11.  How long will my subscription last?
The subscription is 1 year from the date the application was first accessed.  

 

Micromedex Mobile App-specific FAQs
 

1. How does Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials differ from Micromedex Drug Information?

As of March 31, Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials will replace Micromedex Drug Information in iTunes. Currently, from a function and information standpoint, the apps are identical.

Going forward, we will focus our product improvement efforts on Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials, and as a result, will also begin charging a small fee* for the use of the app. This fee will help us continue to invest in product improvements and to deliver the highest quality clinical content - which Micromedex users have come to expect.  

*This fee applies ONLY to those Micromedex app customers who do not have an internet subscription individually or through a healthcare institution. Beginning March 12, 2014, Internet subscription customers, including those with enterprise-wide licenses, should search in iTunes for the free version of this app, called Free Micromedex® Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers.

2. Micromedex Drug Information is/used to be free. Why are you now charging a small fee for Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials?

We are committed to delivering only the highest quality evidence for use in patient care – when and where our customers need it.  To do so responsibly, it is necessary for us to invest in our mobile apps as the needs of our customers and technology partners change.  Rather than clutter our app - which is used to care for patients - with advertisements or other distractions, we will charge a small fee* to help us appropriately invest and enhance the Drug Information App.

*This fee applies ONLY to those Micromedex app customers who do not have an internet subscription individually or through a healthcare institution. Beginning March 12, 2014, Internet subscription customers, including those with enterprise-wide licenses, should search in iTunes for the free version of this app, called Free Micromedex® Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers.

3. I’m already a Micromedex Internet Subscriber – do I have to pay for the app?

If you or the organization you work for has an Internet-based subscription to Micromedex*, then this app is included with your subscription at no charge. Beginning March 12, 2014, please search in iTunes for the free version of this app, called Free Micromedex® Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers.


4. Is the fee for Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials a subscription price or a one-time fee?

The fee for the app is a subscription fee of $2.99/year.

5. I have multiple Apple devices. Do I have to purchase the apps for both my iPad / iPhone?

If you have only one iTunes account for your Apple devices, then you only need to purchase the app once. If you use multiple iTunes accounts for your Apple devices, then you will need to purchase the app separately in from each iTunes account.

6. Does Micromedex provide other medication management apps to help me address drug interactions, IV compatibility, and neonatal and pediatric drug information?

Yes.  Please search the iTunes store for our other medication management apps, including:

  • Micromedex Drug Interactions
  • Micromedex IV Compatibility
  • NeoFax Essentials
  • Pediatric Essentials

*Micromedex Internet Subscribers who have subscriptions to Micromedex Solutions, IV Compatibility, Neofax and Pediatric Drug Information are required in order to access the associated Apps. Once you’ve downloaded the Drug Interactions and IV Compatibility apps, follow these instructions to obtain a password:

1.    Login to Micromedex Solutions through your online subscription.
2.    Click on the “mobileMicromedex” link near the top of the application.
3.    Refer to the detailed downloading instructions, which include your password for activating the mobile app at no charge.

Once you’ve downloaded the Neofax Essentials and/or Pediatrics Essentials apps, contact email support at mdx.smartappsupport@truvenhealth.com  from an official work email address to obtain the passwords for each app. (Or call the Customer Resource Center (CRC) at +1 303.486.6444, option 3.


7. Are the Micromedex apps available in Latin America?

As of April 1, 2014, Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers will be available to customers in Latin America who have an Internet-based subscription to Micromedex Solutions.


8.  What is the source of your drug information data?

Our drug information is compiled from the following sources:

Package Inserts
Medical Journals
Regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA)
Medical association guidelines

  • Clinical trials are reviewed and synthesized, giving clinicians the therapy option information so they can make informed decisions.
  • All of our content is evidence-based and goes beyond the package insert information. Primary literature and guidelines are used to make appropriate treatment recommendations. Editorial comments or opinions are not included, as these are not reflective of national standards of practice.
  • We have standardized processes for literature surveillance, literature selection, and content creation. This ensures that consistent content is created with the best available literature.
  • Our staff is trained to critically appraise the methodological rigor of research studies. With this training, our editorial staff is better able to select studies of the best quality to include in our content and identify studies of poor quality that should not be included.
  • As a result of critically appraising the medical literature, only studies of the best quality are selected to be included in our content. In turn, our customers will make decisions based on data of the best quality.

10. How often is the content updated in Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials / Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers?

Content updates are pushed to the app monthly. Feature and functionality updates are pushed to the app on an as needed basis.
